After Mommy

He painted his toes to understand his young daughter. He joined her for her imaginary tea parties, jumped rope, sang songs to her and read to her every night when he tucked her in. His cooking wasn’t what he wanted it to be, but with Pinterest and YouTube, he managed. He learned to cut and style her hair. He encouraged her to draw and paint and build shapes with sand, to dance and put on shows. He did everything he could to hold her and make everything better for her. Together, they helped each other get through, even if they’d never get over or forget.
