Days of Conflagration

In the age of the new king, when the river ran dry, the fire was first discovered in a backwater corner of the Westing forests. The fire smoldered under the leaves of autumn and beneath the midden piles through that grey winter, unwelcomed, but largely left alone as insignificant. It wasn’t until the harsh spring winds that the fire revealed its true name and the conflagration began the days of conflagration.
