He lifts the lid and steps out of his box into the bright morning sun. The box, made of cardboard, is only 12″ long, 4″ deep, and 5″ across, so there isn’t much room in there for more than the barest of necessities. In his box, he keeps a shell from the ocean picked up from a warm beach under the light of a full moon, a pencil with which he can write notes although he has no paper and the nib needs to be sharpened, a bus token for emergencies, and the whisker of an orange tabby cat who once upon a time stayed with him for a summer or two.

Today will be an adventure, he is sure of it.
