They trudged through the thin layer of fresh snow in search of a Christmas tree. It had to be a certain height, although trees seemed to change after being cut down, strapped to the van, and transported home. Somehow, each year, the drop in elevation or something caused the small tree to expand so that it was too tall, or too wide for the space they had in the living room. Still, the family enjoyed the outing, the time together, and the opportunity to select their very own Charlie Brown tree. This year proved to be no exception as they journeyed fort to select a tree. What no one expected was the human skull they would find under the midden pile at the base of an old evergreen deep in the national forest.
