The difference in the rate of the passage of time from the floor up to eye level is extremely small, but measurable, falling well within the limits of most normal healthy people to accommodate readily enough, resulting in no sense of distortion whatsoever, which comes as little consolation to Williamson, for whom, following a tragic accident in which he suffered severe head trauma, the disparity not only caused a debilitating sense of vertigo, but his internal clock, attempting to adjust for the various temporal rates, reversed itself, doubling the gap between the time experienced by his feet and the time experienced up where he kept his hat.
