We Were Watching

He received the video file link to a public drop-box account from an anonymous email account. At first he considered marking it as junk and forgetting about it, but as he reached for the mouse, the title of the video caught his eye: “WeWereWatching.” There was also an indication of a date, and location. The information triggered a memory he’d suppressed, an event that had left him shaking. He suspended all other network activity, set up a secure connection to an anonymizing service, and clicked on the link. The file was only 100 MB, about a minute of high def wide-screen footage. The scene was dark, shot from a distance, but he knew what it was as a shock ripped through his arms and numbed his brain.
